Having analyzed how the Government and the local authorities implement recommendations of the parliamentary hearings on children´s recreation, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, characterized it as a failure. He informed that most regions chose the easiest way, which is by no means connected with children´s recreation. "They set up school camps for the children to come and check out, so that they seem to attend school after the end of academic year under the pretext of recreation," he explained.
M.Tomenko stated that school principals and teachers are held hostage of such a system of summer recreation, as they have neither financial nor organizational possibilities to provide a full-fledged pupils´ recreation.
"The irony of this situation is that despite the absolute failure to organize proper children´s recreation, high-ranking officials and local public officers show off on the party billboards together with the children, declaring that they care for their happy future," M.Tomenko admitted.
M.Tomenko also stated that the parliament would go back to this subject, "as there remains a chance to correct the mistakes and force the local authorities to implement the applicable laws and parliament´s recommendations on the pupils´ recreation."
